Romantic scenery abounds in West Cornwall. Opportunities for long beach walks at low tide, exploring hidden coves, blustery cliff top adventures and finding the perfect cafe with a view of the sea are endless in Cornwall. It is no wonder Cornwall is a favourite destination for a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway.

We’ve put together a weekend guide to add sparkle to your Valentine’s getaway. Use Porthleven as a base to explore from and stay in one of our cosy cottages for the week or a shorter break at our Artist Loft B&B.

Here are our suggestions to sweep your loved one off their feet!

Choose a beautiful walk

Dust off your wellies, wrap up warm and head out for a walk, hand in hand. Whichever cliff top or beach you choose, it is not likely to be crowded this time of year.

Porthleven to Looe Bar is a popular walk that has the option to turn left at Looe Bar into the woods to Penrose Estate. The walk offers far reaching views across the Lizard Peninsular and views of the whole of Porthleven.

Try the ancient market town of Marazion at low tide for a walk on the long beach with views of St Michael’s Mount. Plenty of places to stop at afterwards for a cosy coffee. Try out Ben’s Cornish Kitchen or The Godolphin Arm’s for beautiful views of the mount.

Explore a hidden valley with local history at Poltesco on the Lizard Peninsular. A little known about location with ancient woodlands, medieval mills and ruined buildings from a Victorian serpentine stone factory. This guide will help you find your way.

Explore historic villages

Take a drive down winding roads and steep valleys to discover villages with white washed cottages in pretty locations with cosy pubs.

Cadgwith Cove – Is located on the Lizard Peninsular and has its history in fishing. In fact fishing boats still go out everyday as they have done for hundreds of years. Charming white washed and thatched cottages surround the tiny cove. The Cadgwith Cove Inn is the centre of the village and is the favourite location for the well known Cadgwith Singers mens’ choir. Traditional Cornish singing on Friday nights! Enjoy the tranquility of this peaceful place with a walk on the cliffs overlooking harbour.

Mousehole – From the coastal road of Penzance to Mousehole you will get views across the whole of Mounts Bay to St Michael’s Mount. Mousehole village is small and retains typical Cornish character and charm, with narrow streets to explore. Stop off for a look around the harbour and eat at the award winning The Old Coastguard for lunch with a view. Booking essential.

Helford Village – the Helford is an estuary most popular in the summer months but makes for a lovely drive through in the winter. Helford village is picture perfect with old cottages located right on the river. Park in the car park on the left as you enter the village and walk through the village to The Shipwright Arms  to watch the tide come up the river.

Try something new

There are many activities you can experience together in Cornwall. For an afternoon horse riding across the moors and beaches  take a look at  Newton Equestrian who cater for all capabilities. Or Surf lessons at Gwithian Beach (yes, its winter so this for the brave!) try out the Gwithian Academy of Surfing .

After a day out, hunker down in front of the fire at The Ship Inn on the harbour in Porthleven, before taking a stroll along the harbour to the Artist Loft B&B .

Book a romantic weekend at The Artist Loft B&B in Porthleven this Valentine’s Day 2016 and get a free bottle of Proseco on arrival.
