It is chilly outside, but February can see some beautiful crisp winter days in Cornwall. If you are visiting our shores this half term, here are some family friendly ideas for things to do.
Take a walk through lovely wooded pathways around Cornwall’s largest natural lake or if you prefer wheels, you can hire bikes from Porthleven Cycle Hire at the boating lake in Helston. Take a break at the Stables Cafe for delicious cake and coffee . You can also walk the loop around from Porthleven, taking in views across Looe Bar towards the Lizard. Cutlass at the ready! Pendennis castle is putting on story telling and exploring for half term. See the website for more details. Fancy dress – not optional!
Lot of activities to help visitors enjoy the outdoors – Piskie Puddle Trail, Welly Wanging, and Woodland Crafts, plus the usual talks and feeds. Grab your wellies and wet weather gear and enjoy the outdoors this half-term. More details of the events at the Seal Sanctuary here.
Children love St Michael’s mount – the crossing to this ancient island is the first part of the adventure! Cross via boat at high tide or walk the causeway at low tide. Be enchanted by history, legends and myths of the Mount. Explore the gardens and castle where there will be quiz to encourage little learners. The Island Cafe is open for lunch and treats. Take a look at a real working Cornish farm! Located in St Keverne, about 30 minutes drive from Porthleven, Roskilly’s is a dairy farm that makes the famous organic Roskilly’s ice-cream. See the cows being milked daily, feed the animals, enjoy walks around the farm and eat amazing lunch or tea and cake in the Croust House restaurant.
Eden’s ice-rink is running this year until 28th February. Go from Eden have set up their ice-ring again this year until the 28th February. Ice-skating sessions are for all ages from the kids to adults. Delicious rink side food is available. Check the Eden Project website for more info.
