St Piran’s Day Celebrations in Cornwall
There will be celebrations throughout Cornwall on and around March 5th to celebrate St Piran, Patron Saint of Cornwall.

The Festival is a three-day feast of food, drink and music held in Porthleven. As a well-established event on the festival calendar, the Festival brings around 30,000 people together in and around the stunning harbour port of Porthleven with national chef’s theatre, food stalls, street food, music day and night and entertainment for all.

The day of the year when local engineering genius and inventor Richard Trevithick (1771-1833) gets the recognition he deserves and Camborne celebrates its importance as a major player in Cornwall’s former mining industry. Lots of spluttering steam engines, singing, dancing and parades.

The origins of this famous celebration dance are more than likely pre-Christian and connected to ancient spring festivals that take place all over Europe. Nowadays the festival’s original purpose of ushering in a prosperous harvest expresses itself in a lively, colourful celebration that involves the whole town. A great family day out.
