Shorter days, beautiful sunsets, a bit of storm watching and quiet beaches – this is just some of what Cornwall offers visitors in Autumn. And while the days are still mild, it is an adventurer’s playground.

Here are our top picks of things to do this October half term and Autumn in Cornwall. Where will you adventure this Autumn?

Gardens

Cornwall’s gardens enjoy a mild climate and are well worth a visit in Autumn to see the seasons change. Our local favourites are Trebah Gardens  and Tremenhere Scultpure Gardens.

Beach combing after a storm

Local beaches are uncrowded this time of year. Get your wellies on and a bucket and spade and find out what the tide has brought in.

Go Foraging

There are many foraging schools in Cornwall since the popularity of this activity has grown. Probably because it is a fantastic way to explore the landscape with the purpose of making delicious food.

Join the South West Coast path challenge

Loads of organised events and walks on the coast path throughout Cornwall to raise funds. A great way to enjoy the beautiful scenery. See maps of the coast path here.

Learn to surf

There is no better time than September to learn to surf. The sea is the warmest it will be all year and you will get the most out of the lesson with fewer people in the sea this time of year. Many days are still calm so perfect for beginners. Try Dan Joel Surf near Mullion.

Local Festivals and events

Cornwall Food and Drink Festival, Truro 27th – 29th September

Enjoy the fabulous fare of Cornwall and award winning chefs at the largest festival dedicated to Cornish food and drink. Truro is worth a day visit too. Be sure to visit the Cathedral in the centre of town.

Falmouth Oyster Festival 13th – 16th October

A wonderful celebration of the old oyster tradition of Cornwall. Enjoy cookery master-classes from celebrity chefs and a packed lineup of entertainment for all ages.

Thundercat World Championships 19th – 20th November

Watching these fast motorised catamarans race the waves of Watergate Bay is a sight to behold.
