4 dog friendly walks near Porthleven

From October to April, Cornwall is a dog owner’s paradise. With empty beaches and woodland walks that welcome dog walkers, Winter is the perfect time come on holiday with your pet.

Try these beautiful walks around Porthleven, South West Cornwall.

1. Porthleven beach through Penrose Estate

The lovely Porthleven beach is popular with dog walkers from Easter to 1st October and is only a short walk from the harbour. Follow the South West Coast path along Looe Bar road taking in the beautiful views. At Looe Bar turn left into Penrose Estate for a walk through the woods. Stop off at the Stables Cafe for a bite to eat before heading back or walk the loop back to Porthleven village. Use this map to find your way.

2. Praa Sands and Hendra

Good Beach Guide Recommended, Praa Sands offers a lovely long and sandy beach for the dogs to enjoy. Dogs are allowed from October to Easter. Hendra Beach is to the far left when looking at the sea. Park at Praa Sands car park and enjoy a long walk by the shoreline. After your walk take a seat in the sunny windows of the dog friendly Sand Bar for a leisurely lunch.

3. Poldhu Cove and Church Cove

Near to Mullion, the lovely dog friendly Poldhu Cove is sandy all year round. Explore the beach and then walk up the hill to the top car park to enjoy the cliffs and views over to Church Cove. Not far away is the Halzephron Inn, an award winning pub which is extremely dog friendly and has delicious food.

4.  Trebah Garden – Falmouth

A little further afield near Falmouth are these well known gardens, created in a valley that leads to a private beach on the Helford River. Dogs are welcome in the gardens and there are designated ‘doggie tables’ in the Planters Cafe. A fabulous place to enjoy this sub-tropical garden with its interesting plants.
