7 reasons to spend Christmas in Cornwall

Think outdoor theatre, wintery beach walks, log fires and cosy pubs this festive season. There are so many reasons to spend Christmas in Cornwall. Here are our 7 top reasons we will be staying in Cornwall this festive season:

1. Mousehole Harbour Christmas lights

This is one of the most popular attractions in Cornwall over Christmas and New year and one not to miss. The little fishing village of Mousehole will be bustling with families, singers and plenty of mulled wine on sale to get you in the spirit. Get up close to the lights at low tide with a walk on the beach or use your photography skills to get the wonderful reflections of the lights on the water at high tide.

2. It’s a dogs paradise

Most of our holiday cottages are dog friendly, some of the cafes in Porthleven are too and all the pubs. Plus, there are around 300 dog friendly beaches in Cornwall. There is so much for your four legged friends to enjoy! So, you can bring them along on holiday too.

3. Sea Shanty Singers in the pubs

There’s something special about Sea Shanty’s sung by local singers in the cosy surrounds of pubs in Cornwall. Spend a few festive evenings at the Cadgwith Cove Inn to hear the Cadgwith singers, usual performances on Friday nights.

4. Christmas Day Swimming

Brave a Cornish tradition with a sea swim on Christmas Day. Every year thousands gather on Cornish beaches to take a dip in the sea (or spectate, for those not quite so brave!).

5. A Unique Cornish Festival – Montol in Penzance

Montol is the Cornish celebration of midwinter which takes place on 21st December. During the day you can find musicians, carol singers, choirs, dancers and stall-holders in the centre of the town. As dark falls a candlelit procession with illuminated band members is led by ‘The Lord of Misrule’ to Princess May Recreation Ground.
